Tech Tip: Profiles in Laserfiche Snapshot 8.2

One of the new features in Snapshot 8.2 is the ability to create profiles. A profile is a saved set of configuration information and properties. You can create different profiles for different types of documents and apply them as needed, rather than configuring the settings again every time you change types of documents. Profiles can be applied when using Snapshot as a local printer.

Note: Since this is a preview, note that the details and appearances of certain elements may change between now and the final release.

Creating a Profile

To configure a profile, you first specify the Snapshot configuration settings. These are available when you print to Snapshot, and also when are configuring Snapshot default settings.

These settings include:

  • Repository and connection information.
  • Default document properties such as name, folder and volume.
  • Template and field values.
  • Tags.
  • Document merging settings.
  • Text generation settings.

Then, in the Advanced tab, you can save the current settings and specify a descriptive name for the profile.

Applying a Profile

When you are printing with Snapshot, you can choose a profile to apply. In the Advanced tab, you can select the name of a profile. The settings on all the other tabs will change to those saved in the specified profile.

This is very helpful, would you need to select the profile as you snapshot each document or does it maintain the setting until it is changed?

    Hi Cheryl,

You can specify which profile Snapshot should use when configuring Snapshot. Snapshot will then use that profile when processing documents until you go back into Laserfiche Snapshot Configuration and change it. You can also choose not to select any profiles, in which case Snapshot will use the default settings.

Will profiles also be available for Laserfiche Scanning? There are many times when we’d like to use a specific set of image enhancements e.g. rotate and dynamic thresholding for bank statements with gray backgrounds.

Those aren’t on the feature list for Laserfiche Scanning, however, in Quick Fields you can use profiles to apply a specific set of image enhancements to individual pages or documents, or you can configure sessions to handle different batches of documents in different ways.
