By indexing more than a million documents, the Laserfiche Document Imaging solution provides coast-to-coast lien research support and can serve hundreds of customers simultaneously.
Lending and leasing professionals need fast access to actual copies of public records to ensure the legality of their transactions. The most trivial error can kill a deal. Examples include a misplaced hyphen in a person’s name, or “Road” substituted for “Avenue” in an address.
For more than twenty-five years, UCC Direct Services (UDS) has helped financial institutions locate pivotal public records in order to complete Uniform Commercial Code filings in a timely manner.
“For a long time, we scanned the public record search results on a case-by-case basis. We were able to access digital copies within our office, but e-mail and fax were the only delivery options, creating additional work-steps for the customer and for our internal processes,” said Frank Hagler, IT Director of CCH Legal Information Services Corp., of which UDS is a division. “When you’re dealing with the security of thousands of dollars, the lenders really need to see the actual documents as quickly as possible.”
Now, UDS customer specialists scan every document into the Laserfiche repository. When a customer needs access to the paperwork, UDS simply sends them a link to their customer web page.
Bluelake Software, Inc., of Redondo Beach, Calif., tied Laserfiche into UDS’ on-line lien service center. UDS customers can view actual documentation from the web site as it is scanned into the system. From there, they can e-mail the document, print it on high-quality paper, or just check it against the lien from their computer screen.
“A lot of banks really count on UDS, so they have a work system that is very meticulous and well-organized,” said Bruce Williams, founder of Bluelake Software. “It took an open-ended solution like Laserfiche, and a lot of hard work from our implementation team, to integrate with a complex network of banks and credit unions. Now, UDS has exactly what they wanted: a paperless way to get documents to their customers at lighting speed.”
