LONG BEACH, CA - One of the nation’s busiest educational institutions, Long Beach City College, depends on Laserfiche to handle the admissions packages, including applications, transcripts, test results and references of its 33,000 students on two separate campuses.

“We operate on a rolling admissions system, which means that students are evaluated every day, once all their admissions documents have been received,” said Ross Miyahiro, director of admissions and records. “Laserfiche really keeps the process moving, enabling us to issue as many as 200 admissions confirmations in a single day.”

Once admitted, students continue to receive VIP treatment thanks to Laserfiche, according to Peter Maharaj, student services technical manager. Counselors may access student files on Laserfiche, to review academic progress and advise on future course work. Maharaj, who attended the Laserfiche Institute Users Conference in Long Beach, has some additional plans for his system. He is currently completing a migration to the SQL platform, which will be step one.

“After that, I wish to integrate Laserfiche with PeopleSoft technology so that our admissions and counseling records on Laserfiche will integrate with academic coursework records on PeopleSoft,” Maharaj said. “Being able to share archived information from both systems will greatly enhance our ability to serve the LBCC student body.”

LBCC student archives are in good hands, with direct assistance from ECS of Riverside, CA, a top-ranked Laserfiche VAR, and support from Laserfiche education program manager Steve Weinberg and others at corporate headquarters. Long Beach Community College is an ideal candidate for Web Access, a thin-client which allows wide access to stored archives without installation on individual computers, according to Maharaj.

“Laserfiche will help LBCC comply with new state laws designed to prevent identity theft,” Weinberg said. “The college needs to identify students by a new coding system, rather than the social security number system now in use. Laserfiche can accomplish that change in days.”

Laserfiche ( www.Laserfiche.com ), a premier digital records management company, provides high-volume document storage and retrieval systems to more than 21,000 government and business customers. Founded in 1987, the Long Beach, California-based company has doubled in size in the past two years, winning two consecutive Los Angeles Fast 50 awards from Deloitte & Touche and two straight Five Star designations from VAR Business magazine.
