2009 laserfiche institute conference

“I found last year’s conference extremely educational. It was chock-full of user-friendly ideas that we could take home and use right away,” says City of Kenai, AK, Deputy City Clerk Corene Hall.

Hall’s not only grateful for how Laserfiche eliminated Kenai’s 30-year backlog of paper files, but she’s also excited about this year’s Laserfiche Institute Conference.

This year’s conference will be held at the Hilton Los Angeles Airport from January 12-14. More than 1,000 users and VARs are expected to attend, and Hall will be among them again.

“I’m definitely attending this year’s conference. I’m looking forward to learning more Laserfiche shortcuts, but I’m especially interested in learning more about Version 8, because we’re upgrading to it next year,” she says.

Like last year, this year’s 80-plus sessions are divided into five tracks:

  • The Processes and Practices track examines business cases for implementing Laserfiche and provides practical advice to help formalize near- and long-term plans.
  • The Laserfiche Labs track proves the best way to learn software is to actually use it, complete with preconfigured laptops for hands-on instruction.
  • The Product Overviews track teaches what each Laserfiche product can do and how they can be used to solve business problems.
  • The Architecture and Administration track provides a “developers-eye view” of Laserfiche products that’s especially useful for systems administrators, integrators and developers.
  • The Industry Solutions track focuses on how Laserfiche solutions are being used to solve business problems and includes real-world case studies presented by Laserfiche customers.

“All the sessions I attended last year were easy to understand, without being patronizing,” remembers Anjy Divine, Supervising OA1C at the County of Riverside, CA, Human Resources Department. “I thoroughly enjoyed the sessions on how others are using Laserfiche. It gave me insight on how to apply new strategies to our current applications to make them even more useful.”

“I’m responsible for records management implementation for more than 28,000 employees, 450 of which are in HR, so I really valued these sessions,” she continues. “And the community feel of the conference is extremely important to me. When you’re at the conference, there’s an energy everyone has. It’s exciting to share ideas, and you leave really excited about all the possibilities for Laserfiche.”

Last year’s conference was the first to gather the entire Laserfiche community—users, resellers and Laserfiche staff—together. “To me, one of the most important aspects of last year’s conference was having VARs and users attend together,” Hall says. “I spent some quality time with my VAR and we met with vendors together to discuss possible purchases. So I’m definitely looking forward to that again this year.”

Chris Fiorucci of BC Biomedical Laboratories

While users who have attended before definitely look forward to a return trip to the conference, those who haven’t attended in the past are looking forward to it, too. For Chris Fiorucci of BC Biomedical Laboratories, the benefits of the conference are quite clear. “I’m very much looking forward to attending the conference, especially for the real-world case studies I’ve heard so much about,” says Fiorucci. “I know how much Laserfiche has helped us and how vital it is to our everyday business needs, but learning from other users about how they use Laserfiche is tremendously beneficial.”

For seven consecutive years, BC Biomedical has been voted one of Canada’s 50 Best Employers to work for, and Fiorucci sees her company and Laserfiche as kindred spirits. “Because our company has a strong family feel to it, we love the fact that Laserfiche is so community-oriented,” she says. “Being a part of the Laserfiche community is one of the best things about being a Laserfiche user.”

For Hall, the break from January in Alaska will be nice, but the chance to immerse herself in the Laserfiche community will be even better. “Laserfiche is a powerful tool, so be a sponge and absorb everything you can. Attend all the sessions you can and ask lots of questions. Conference participation is a must for every user!”
