Tech Tip: Web Access 8 Delivers Features You Won’t Find Anywhere Else
October 14th, 2008 Comment on this articleBuilding on the capabilities of Web Access 7 and incorporating the new additions to the full Laserfiche 8 Client, the new Web Access 8 also adds a variety of unique new features, each of which is explained below:
- View all metadata in one pane.
- Revert metadata to its last saved state.
- View a preview of a document’s first page without opening it.
- Send direct links to entries to other users.
The Metadata Pane
The expanded Web Access 8 Metadata Pane, which displays all metadata (fields, tags, links, and version information) in a single pane, makes it easier to view, add, or change any information associated with an entry.
- Select the entry whose metadata you want to view.
- Right-click it and select Fields.

Revert Metadata
The Revert button at the top of the Metadata Pane gives you the ability to revert to the last saved state of metadata. For example, if you add incorrect field values to an entry, clicking Revert clears the mistakes.

Preview Pane
The Preview Pane gives you more information about an entry, allowing users to see what document they are working on without having to open it. When an entry is selected, this pane will display the entry’s type (document or folder), when it was last modified, its size, author, and full path. If you have a document selected, it will display a thumbnail of the first page of the document.

Direct Links to Entries and Search Results
Web Access 8 eliminates the need to send documents via e-mail or to explain to another user where a document is located. Because it is browser based, you can navigate to a document or folder, copy the URL, and send it to another user. The same can be done with search results, allowing you to point another user to a specific set of documents returned by your search.
