WebLink 8 Feature Preview: Search Crawling
March 10th, 2009 Comment on this articleWhen you use a search engine like Google, you’re able to find results because it has already “crawled” through websites looking for key search terms, which are then indexed for quick retrieval. We are changing the way links work in WebLink 8 so that Google and other search engines will be able to search through WebLink sites for OCRed text, metadata, document names and other published data.
With this feature, people who don’t know anything about an organization or about its WebLink site will be able to use Google to find documents—which will help increase the utility of WebLink to deliver documents to the public. Of course, users who are familiar with WebLink will still be able to use WebLink’s built-in search capabilities to locate documents.
Please note that Google and other search engines will only be able to search and retrieve documents you’ve designated as public, so your entire repository will not be available for searching, just your published public items.
WebLink 8 is targeted for release at the beginning of the second quarter. Keep reading the UserNews for more information on product features, functionality and release dates.
