WebLink 8 Released
June 16th, 2009 Comment on this articleWe’re happy to announce that Laserfiche WebLink 8 is now available.
Laserfiche WebLink is a user-friendly public portal site for providing Internet access to documents. It can be instantly configured to show searches and lists that quickly lead users to what they are looking for—and to display a visual style that matches your existing Website.
WebLink 8 is designed to be more accessible to public users who might be unfamiliar with Laserfiche or your organization’s naming conventions and filing methodologies. And part of the new portal feel of WebLink 8 is focused on making searching take a more prominent role over browsing.
For example, instead of landing on a page displaying the repository folder structure, users will now land on a WebLink Welcome page with preconfigured searches and commonly used bookmarks. Administrators can easily customize this Welcome page and searching options using a new WebLink Designer.

The New WebLink 8 Welcome Page
WebLink 8 also includes the following enhancements:
- New Browser Support: WebLink 8 supports Internet Explorer 6, 7 and 8, Firefox 2 and 3, Safari, Chrome, and Opera.
- Mobile Support: WebLink 8 can be viewed from the iPhone and Android mobile devices.
- WebLink Designer: The WebLink Designer is a point and click tool for creating search forms, setting up the Welcome page, and customizing the colors and logo for WebLink.
- Simplified Viewer: The Document Viewer is easier to understand and includes only relevant metadata.
- Page Scrolling: Users can pan, zoom or scroll across pages without reloading the web page.
- Web Search Crawling: WebLink can now be crawled by Internet search engines, so documents in WebLink can be found the same way users find other pages on the Internet.
- Updated Administrator’s Utility: The updated Administrator’s Utility configures your repository connections, watermarks, e-mail, usage statistics, and the location of your temporary files.
- New Reporting: WebLink 8 Reporting allows administrators to see simple usage statistics about their WebLink site.

Does this mean I would be able to search LF from my laptop 4 states away? I am not as familiar with LF as I should be. Also is this a secure from anyone browsing the internet? Can we arrange for only the select employees of our company to view documents?

Yes, you can search anywhere with internet conectivity. Typically, a public profile is created and security is applied so that account so that everyone logging into WebLink through that anonymous account only has access to the public documents and data. You can also configure user-specific accounts so that specific individuals are able to search WebLink with their own specific access to the documents.
