Tech Tip: WebLink 8: RSS Feeds
Learn how to set up RSS feeds in WebLink 8 using Firefox or Internet Explorer.
July 20th, 2009 Comment on this articleRSS feeds in WebLink 8 enable you to see updates to specific folders and search results in your repository all on one page and in an organized manner. For example, if you subscribe to a specific folder’s RSS feed, when a document is added to or deleted from that folder, you will see that change when you view your RSS feeds in a Web browser or in an RSS reader. When a new entry is included in or excluded from search results, it will also be indicated in your RSS feeds.
Because RSS readers do not give you the option to log in to your repository, you must have your repository set up to automatically log in using Windows Authentication or a Laserfiche username and password. This can be configured in the Virtual Directory tab of the WebLink 8 Administrator’s Utility.
To subscribe to an RSS feed for a specific folder or search result
- In WebLink, open the folder or perform the search you want to subscribe to.
- Note: The search performed must be a customized search or a quick search performed from the Folder Browser. These are the only two searches that provide RSS subscriptions.
- Click the Subscribe to this page button. In Firefox, it will be at the end of the URL bar. In Internet Explorer it will be in the toolbar.
- Select how to view the feeds:
- In Firefox, you will see a Subscribe to this feed using option. You can select how you want to view the feeds (in a Web browser or a different reader), or you can copy the page’s URL and use a reader of your choice that is not listed. Click Subscribe Now.
- In Internet Explorer, you can click Subscribe to this feed and add it to your Favorites Center to view it in a Web browser, or you can copy the page’s URL and paste it in the reader of your choice.
