Hello from User Education
October 16th, 2008Greetings from the User Education Team at Laserfiche! We’ve stopped creating help files, white papers, and videos just long enough to get a blog started, because we’re hoping for two results: one, that we can spread the word about the resources we’re creating for you, and two, that we can hear from you about what you like, use frequently, and/or want more of.
First a little background: we’re the technical writers here at Laserfiche. We write and produce anything and everything that concerns how to use Laserfiche software. We target every type of audience—from the most basic, casual user of Laserfiche in a customer’s office to the most technical installer and integrator. We’re primarily responsible for software documentation, including help files, printed materials and release information such as readmes. In addition, we write technical white papers, Knowledge Base articles, Presales training manuals, tech tips and a variety of other materials as required.
You’ll see each of us posting to this blog individually under the UE banner (though some more than others!), and I want to introduce you to each individual:
Connie Anderson started at Laserfiche in Support, and then moved into User Education. That experience gives her valuable insight into the needs of advanced and administrative users of our software. She’s responsible for writing the administration console (and many other) help files and creating the bulk of the white papers on the Support Site. She’s also a Laserfiche Conference rockstar, as she’ll be teaching nearly a dozen classes this year.
Jonathan Powers is quickly turning into our video guy, and is the voice of our narrated videos. He’s a specialist in Workflow 8 … just ask him about it, and he’ll tell you he loves that product. He and his wife, Misty, also support the Presales and Recruiting teams at Laserfiche by leading a number of Regional User Training sessions and attending career fairs to recruit employees.
Misty Powers, a product generalist after writing all the user/Client help files for Laserfiche 8, is now focusing on becoming our Web products expert. She’s also creating lots of videos and white papers, in between updating help files and creating conference presentations—for the main Client as well as Web clients. She and Jonathan travel to career fairs and training sessions whenever possible to spread the word about Laserfiche.
Roger Wu is the backbone of the UE team, because he has broad product and process knowledge about nearly every software that Laserfiche produces. He’s our most technical guy, and as such, he creates the weekly Knowledge Base articles from Support cases, writes the Toolkit documentation, and remembers how to work our internal software and processes when the rest of us forget.
Snow Tempest is the newest member of the UE team, but she’s jumped right into the deep end of the pool, joining the Quick Fields 8 product team and working on documentation and the user interface. Expect to see a suite of white papers, videos, and conference presentations from her on the new Quick Fields in the coming months.
Tammy Kaehler … As the User Education Manager, I spend a lot of time making sure every documentation need is being met and that every member of UE has plenty to do (that’s not usually a problem). When I’m not doing that, I’m helping organize a portion of the conference classes; working with Presales to create course materials; writing the occasional white paper; and handling a multitude of little details and tasks (like getting this blog started).
More to come soon from User Education!
