Open ECM architecture makes integration with both desktop and cloud-based CRM easy

Long Beach, CA (Laserfiche)—December 6, 2010—Laserfiche today announced the availability of a prepackaged integration with salesforce.com designed specifically for Registered Investment Advisors (RIAs). By integrating Laserfiche enterprise content management (ECM) with their CRM systems, RIAs improve client service, enhance employee efficiency and facilitate compliance.

“As the leading ECM provider in the RIA space, Laserfiche is 100% committed to supporting the CRM systems our customers rely on,” said Tom Wayman, Vice President of Product Strategy at Laserfiche. “Laserfiche’s open architecture allows advisors to instantly access critical client documentation from within their CRM applications, saving time and effort.”

Available as both a Web-based and a desktop solution, Laserfiche ECM includes:

Document imaging capabilities that enable advisory firms to go paperless.

Records management automation that lowers the cost of compliance.

Powerful, DoD 5015.2-certified security features that protect confidential client information.

Comprehensive auditing and reporting capabilities that monitor all system activity.

Workflow functionality that enables advisors to automate standard business processes.

Windows-like interface that minimizes user training and improves productivity right away.

Laserfiche provides a tool for quickly viewing the effective rights that a particular trustee has to a folder or document, which you can use to verify that the correct rights have been set, to check whether a user has access to something, or to troubleshoot security problems.

Even with a well-thought-out security policy, it can be difficult to remember exactly what rights a user or group has to a particular entry in Laserfiche–especially when you take inheritance and group membership into account. Laserfiche provides a tool for quickly viewing the effective rights that a particular trustee has to a folder or document, which you can use to verify that the correct rights have been set, to check whether a user has access to something, or to troubleshoot security problems.

To view a user’s effective rights, select the document or folder you want to check, right-click and select “Access Rights.” Go to the “Effective Rights” tab. By default, the dialog will display the effective rights for the trustee you are logged in as; to view the rights for another trustee, click “Choose” and then pick the trustee from the list. If a right has a check in the “Granted” box, the user has that right; if it is cleared, they do not have that right.

This dialog takes into account all entry access rights that affect this trustee and this folder. That means that entry access rights inherited from group membership will be reflected here, as will entry access rights inherited from farther up the folder tree. Note, however, that it does not take into account other types of rights. For example, if a user has the “Bypass Browse” privilege, they will be able to browse the contents of a folder even if they do not have the “Browse” right displayed; if a user does not have the “Delete” feature right, they will not be able to delete documents even if they have the “Delete Entry” access right.

Important: You must have the “Read Entry Security” entry access right to view this dialog.

Laserfiche chosen over 27 other vendors

LONG BEACH, CA (Laserfiche)—October 30, 2009—Laserfiche today announced that the Virginia Port Authority has selected Laserfiche to implement an enterprise content management solution that will involve digitizing administrative documents and records and setting up electronic administrative processes. Laserfiche was selected out of 28 vendors that had submitted proposals.

“The Laserfiche solution was selected because of its robust capabilities, which met the stringent requirements of the RFP,” said Carl Long, president and CEO of Unity Business Systems (UBS). UBS is the value-added Laserfiche reseller that submitted the proposal and will implement and oversee the Port project.

“We are pleased to hear that the Port of Virginia has selected Laserfiche as its solution for managing its extensive business processes,” said Laserfiche Senior Vice President of Business Development Chris Wacker. “We are confident that Unity Business Systems will implement the project quickly, smoothly and professionally for this busy Port.”

In 2007, the Port of Virginia handled 2.1 million TEUs (twenty foot equivalent units). The Port Authority, which employees 140 people (85 police members and 55 administrative staff), was established in 1952 as a political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia for the purpose of stimulating commerce in the ports of the Commonwealth, promoting the shipment of goods and cargoes through the ports, improving the navigable tidal waters within the Commonwealth, and in general to perform any act or function which may be useful in developing, improving, or increasing the commerce of the ports of the Commonwealth.

The Authority owns and is responsible for the operations and security of three marine terminals: Norfolk International Terminals (NIT), Portsmouth Marine Terminal (PMT), and Newport News Marine Terminal (NNMT), as well as an inland intermodal facility—the Virginia Inland Port (VIP) located in Front Royal, Virginia. These facilities primarily handle import and export containerized and break-bulk cargoes.

2009 Texas CIO of the Year uses Laserfiche to improve information management in Collin County

LONG BEACH, CA (Laserfiche)—October 29, 2009—Laserfiche today announced that it is exhibiting Agile Enterprise Content Management (ECM) engineered with Laserfiche and Microsoft technology at the sixth annual InnoTech show (booth 413) taking place today in Austin, Texas. Laserfiche has over 800 customers in Texas, including Collin County, home of 2009 Texas CIO of the Year Caren Skipworth.

Collin County has based its information management infrastructure on a Laserfiche Agile ECM solution that provides central control over standards, security and auditing while still giving individual departments the flexibility to customize their own filing methodologies and workflow. A few of the benefits the County has realized include: 300 hours of saved staff time in the Auditor’s Office; reduced software maintenance fees; and decreased paper storage costs.

“With Laserfiche, I have standardized on an Agile ECM system instead of deploying and managing different systems according to different departmental needs,” said Skipworth, IT director for Collin County and 2009 Texas CIO of the Year. “It helps my staff work more efficiently, because I establish central rules that are then administered by individual department heads.”

“Agile ECM is a critical necessity for organizations that want to quickly and easily extend collaboration, scanning and workflow capabilities in response to changing business needs,” said Tom Wayman, Laserfiche Vice President of Product Strategy. “Built on Microsoft standards, Agile ECM is easy to deploy, easy to administer and easy to use.”

For an insider’s look at how Collin County has leveraged Agile ECM to increase efficiency and improve customer service, see: http://www.laserfiche.com/docs/case_studies/Collin_CountyTX.pdf.

Laserfiche to support new Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 integration opportunities, providing clients with significant enterprise content management (ECM) benefits

LONG BEACH, CA (Laserfiche) Oct. 19, 2009—Laserfiche® today announced it is geared to support new features for its Agile ECM framework using the enhanced capabilities of the upcoming release of Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010. Laserfiche will add an ADO.NET provider to its existing SharePoint Server 2010 integration to enable access to Laserfiche data from Business Connectivity Services. Federated search will be supported to retrieve documents using Laserfiche’s search engine at the same time a SharePoint repository is searched. Records Management document categorization will be enhanced through the use of SharePoint Server 2010 Business Connectivity Services. Document content will be more finely tuned to match the topic of portal pages.

Laserfiche’s integration with SharePoint 2010 maximizes the strengths of both systems: While SharePoint 2010 adds collaboration portal functionality to an organization’s infrastructure, Laserfiche provides document imaging and content management that is scalable and easy to implement and use. “Companies are now looking to new ways to manage their information infrastructure with cost effective ECM systems that will streamline processes and easily improve adherence to enterprise compliance requirements,” said Tom Wayman, Laserfiche Vice President of Product Strategy. “Laserfiche complements the SharePoint platform supporting developers and users who need to extend their collaboration, scan images, and set up workflows to quickly respond to business needs.”

“People want more choice and flexibility in how, where, and when they work,” said Owen Allen, SharePoint senior product manager, Microsoft Corp. “Laserfiche is built on the SharePoint 2010 platform to offer customers a way to achieve richer and better collaboration and productivity using SharePoint 2010.”

“Given Laserfiche’s experience and dedication to the Microsoft suite of technology, we believe it delivers a complete offering to customers seeking an integrated content management and SharePoint 2010 solution,” said Jerry Carnley, CIO of Spindletop MHMR (a community mental health center). Spindletop has evolved as an innovator of technology among the community centers of east Texas (covering about 30% of counties in Texas) that store and access data on the SharePoint Server farm housed at Spindletop.

“Laserfiche provided custom templates that allow our users to scan 10 times more content than before the custom templates were implemented,” added Carnley. “Also, the Web interface provided by Laserfiche allows us to properly and securely archive this sensitive data in a responsible way that is accessible from anywhere on the private MPLS network that connects all 10 community centers.” Laserfiche value-added reseller DynaSource successfully integrated Laserfiche Web Access with Spindletop’s SharePoint Server-powered Intranet.

The Laserfiche customer base and community of developers are eager to start working on integrations with SharePoint 2010 to leverage new features and support them when available. With the Microsoft SharePoint Conference 2009 fast approaching, Laserfiche looks forward to the unveiling of SharePoint Server 2010 and to continuing its tradition of a firm alignment with Microsoft technology.

SAN DIEGO, CA (Laserfiche) October 14, 2009—Laserfiche today unveiled a new, educational white paper for community banks at the Western Independent Bankers’ (WIB) Annual Bank Technology and Security Summit (booth #22). The white paper, “Cashing in on Content Management,” outlines how community banks can increase operational efficiency, decrease the cost of compliance and improve customer service by leveraging enterprise content management (ECM).

“The subprime mortgage collapse has damaged many large financial institutions and created unique opportunities for well-run community banks,” said Laserfiche Senior Vice President Chris Wacker. “With its ability to accelerate loan processing, improve branch management, facilitate compliance and reduce costs, ECM provides a comprehensive competitive advantage for smart, tech-savvy community banks.”

At the Summit, Laserfiche will demonstrate how its agile ECM solutions automate, streamline and transform collaborative business processes at financial institutions such as FNB Durango and Farmers & Merchants Bank.

“At the First National Bank of Durango, we chose Laserfiche because it will enable us to increase efficiency, decrease costs, and automate processes such as account and loan opening—both of which have traditionally required a lot of paper and staff time,” said Jan Lewis, information technology manager at FNB Durango.

She concluded, “The flexibility and functionality of the solution are outstanding, the price is competitive, and our value-added reseller has contributed a great deal of knowledge and strength to our implementation thus far.”

Hybrid EMR offers an intuitive, easy-to-use alternative to full-blown EMR systems

DENVER, CO (Laserfiche) October 11, 2009—Laserfiche today announced its “natural approach to EMR” campaign at the national Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) annual conference to convey to healthcare professionals that EMR can flow naturally with how doctors and practice managers already manage their clinical workflow.

“Practicing medicine is complex enough without software making things more difficult,” said Laserfiche Senior Vice President Chris Wacker. “There are many complicated EMR solutions out there that create more stress for doctors and practice managers, and our natural ‘hybrid’ approach to EMR alleviates that.”

Laserfiche will demonstrate how its simpler, more natural approach to EMR—built on a content management platform—has enabled many practices to scan and store electronic patient records, improve billing processes and reap an impressive ROI (booth #1243). For example, Children’s Respiratory and Critical Care Specialists in Minneapolis, MN, uses its Laserfiche system to handle traditional EMR applications like patient charts and data mining.

“It has served us really well and it didn’t require a total revamping of our internal processes,” said Children’s office IT manager John Stamm. “There are no lost charts, but the biggest plus has been easy access to those documents by multiple people from various locations. Doctors, front office, billing and nursing can all access the same chart at the same time. This is especially important when you have multiple sites.”

He concluded, “Doctors don’t typically like EMR systems because they require major changes in clinical workflow; a content management system does not.”
