Quick Fields offers keyboard shortcuts for most of the frequently used actions. This is helpful for quickly working through large numbers of documents or settings. In Quick Fields 8, you can customize keyboard shortcuts by either changing the keys associated with actions or creating shortcut keys for actions that don’t already have them assigned. For example, you could create custom keyboard shortcuts to jump to the first or last document in the Revision Pane. Full story »

I just set up my first Quick Fields session using Real Time Lookup and it was so amazingly easy! The lookup process is very easy to use if you’ve dealt at all with ODBC Data Sources. Once I had my ODBC data source set up to know what database on what network drive, the rest was simply a matter of knowing the data and where it goes on the document template. I was even able to go to the ODBC data sources configuration from within the Quick Fields window, instead of having to go through Control Panel. The wizard walked me all the way through with no trouble at all.

Laserfiche is pleased to announce the release of Quick Fields 8.0.1. This maintenance release of Quick Field includes the full release version of the Scripting Kit as well as full support for Quick Fields Agent 8.0.1.
Quick Fields 8.0.1 enhancements include:
- Zone OCR improvements: place a token in a multi-value field and each line of the captured zone automatically becomes a separate value. Custom character preferences can be set for letters, numbers or punctuation on a per-character basis.
- Capture and Configuration improvements: search for documents – by path, field, token or text – and multi-select the results to store, delete or bookmark for later processing. Also create settings for whether to keep toolbar and pane layouts, custom keyboard shortcuts, process profiles, and Quick Fields options when importing or exporting sessions.
- Quick Fields Agent Expanded Scheduling Options: Set schedules to run once, daily, weekly or monthly, or to specify an end date. Sessions can also be set to either scan, store, or scan and store. Multiple sessions can be prioritized and run at the same time.
- Quick Fields Agent Expanded Reporting and Validation: allow global event viewer to easily check on errors and view a history of every scheduled session. Also session validation is available so Quick Fields Agent will not run into message prompts while processing.
- Quick Fields Scripting Kit Release: includes nine hooks into Quick Fields processing where users can run custom scripts that can each add data, such as setting fields and tokens, to the document or page objects. Comes with a fully functional Visual Studio-like project with external references, organizational folders, and C# or VB autocomplete system. Multiple document interface and GUI provide feedback about the script status.

In Quick Fields 8, a single barcode process can read all the barcodes on the page and save all their values in a token you can use to fill out a multi-value field or multiple single-value fields. Data encoded in barcodes can be read quickly and accurately. This feature lets you take even better advantage of these aspects of barcodes to capture multiple items of data through simple, non-repetitive configuration steps and without the need to create precise zones on the images.

Time was, when an officer from Ontario’s Hamilton Police Service (HPS) responded to investigate a call about an EDP (emotionally disturbed person), they’d have two choices to determine risk factors as they proceeded: Drive back to the station with the EDP to look up past reports - or place a call and wait for a Records Clerk to pull the report and read it to them over the phone. Either way, the officer would be off the street, sometimes for hours, waiting for the necessary information to act on.
These days, however, an officer responding to the same call can pull up reports right in their patrol car, accessing information vital to the safety of the EDP – and the public – using just a name, incident number or other simple keyword.

In Quick Fields 8, the syntax for pattern matching expressions (regular expressions) has changed to .NET regular expressions, which are also used by Workflow 8. When you migrate Quick Fields 7 sessions to Quick Fields 8, the migration should proceed successfully, but you may need to update processes that use pattern matching to the new syntax. In addition, Quick Fields 8 includes several new processes, such as Substitution and Text Identification, that use regular expressions to work with a document’s text, so familiarity with the new regular expression syntax will enable you to take full advantage of them.

“We consider our faculty to be our greatest asset,” says David Haugland, Associate Vice Provost of the University of Southern California (USC). In Quick Fields 8, if you want to revise a document that has already been scanned into the session, you can apply processes or groups of processes without having to re-scan the document.
To apply a process during Revision:
- Right-click on the document in the Revision Pane.
- Select Run Process.

- Point to one of the following:
- Process: to choose from a menu of available processes
- Document Class Processes: to choose from a menu of document classes you have configured. When you select a document class, all processes configured under Page Processing for that class will be applied to the selected document.
By default, only Quick Fields administrators can apply processes during Revision. If you want scanner operators to have this ability as well, you can change the permissions for the session by going to Tools, Options, Current Session, Permissions, and selecting the actions you want operators to be able to perform.
