Joe
Riegel was at Cotton Correctional Facility in Jackson , MI , late last
year in his capacity as service manager for the division of Southfield,
MI-based DSS Corporation that installs and maintains recording systems.
DSS is also a Laserfiche VAR.
"We
were working on a logger for their telephone recorder system," Riegel
recalls. "You are escorted whenever you're in a prison. Just passing
time with the person who was with us that day, I mentioned that there
seemed to be filing cabinets all over the place. I told them we had another
product that could reduce four of their filing cabinets down to one CD."
Intrigued,
the Cotton Correctional staffer called in Mike Bragg, DSS' Laserfiche
specialist. Eventually, Bragg delivered presentations to the IT staffs
and wardens at Cotton Correctional and five other
Michigan Department of Corrections facilities in Jackson . Cotton and
Parnall Correctional Facility have already chosen to bring on separate
Laserfiche systems to handle their personnel records. The other four facilities
are viewing the first two installations as pilot projects to prepare them
for converting their paper to Laserfiche too.
