Overview
Since 1987, Laserfiche, an international leader in the field of electronic document management, storage and retrieval, has been creating software solutions that make rooms of documents as accessible and searchable as a single page. The award-winning software is known for its reliability, robustness, ease of use, and scalability. More than 25,000 government agencies, Fortune 1000 corporations, school districts and universities around the world use Laserfiche as their enterprise solution.
Studies show that a typical professional spends one-half to two hours each day simply searching for documents. This takes away valuable time that could be spent actually making use of the information. Laserfiche solves this problem by revolutionizing the filing process and providing a means to rapidly share and manage all documents contained within the system.
Laserfiche leads the industry in offering flexible, easily integrated document management solutions for a broad range of business and government needs. Laserfiche turns existing systems and networks into dynamic document archives that can be easily scaled from a single user to the large company networks to the global deployment on the Internet. Laserfiche’s wide range of products allows it to grow along with the changing needs of an organization.
Laserfiche Electronic Document Management Software
Laserfiche builds on the strong points of paper documents, rather than abandoning paper altogether. Documents are scanned or electronically converted page for page into Laserfiche electronic repositories. Each document’s text is then “read” and indexed using the latest Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology. Laserfiche can then find files based on any word or phrase in the document, folder location or by customized electronic templates containing optional information such as key words, dates and invoice numbers. Laserfiche can search through millions of documents in seconds to find the exact information needed.
Laserfiche software is available in different configurations for different needs. Laserfiche easily integrates with existing systems and lets organizations work with and distribute documents the way they want to, rather than forcing employees to adapt to a new system.
Corporate Philosophy
Laserfiche’s years of experience make it an innovator in document management technology. The company works closely with clients, resellers and industry organizations to educate new audiences and identify new applications for document imaging. Product advancements are customer-driven to better meet the workplace’s changing needs.
As an organization, Laserfiche is always looking to the future. The software concept was originally created in 1982, but technological limitations kept the product from being implemented for several years. Recent advancements in storage media and the Internet have strengthened Laserfiche’s commitment to making electronic document management an essential part of the workplace.
Laserfiche is a division of Compulink Management Center, Inc. Compulink has been providing information management solutions for corporate and professional data processing challenges for more than 20 years. The firm was originally incorporated in 1974 to provide specialized data processing services to management in industrial, commercial, institutional, and governmental organizations worldwide. Compulink is a certified WBE and MBE, and has a successful track record in assisting organizations in establishing electronic document management systems.
Development and Customization
Laserfiche works principally through a network of Value Added Resellers (VARs) to distribute and integrate software. VARs come to Laserfiche with years of experience in system design, consulting, software and hardware integration, and network solutions. After joining Laserfiche, VARs receive intensive training at corporate headquarters and weekly technical updates.
Laserfiche’s primary internal resource is its remarkable development team. Team members are well rounded in both the theoretical and practical aspects of computer systems and hold degrees from prestigious universities. Before joining Laserfiche, our analysts and programmers held significant positions in program development, consulting and custom computer solutions.
Laserfiche’s VARs and developers work together closely to provide individual solutions for clients’ integration needs. Laserfiche has integrated its software with accounting, database, word processing, spreadsheet, GIS, CAD, RMS and email systems, among others. Laserfiche and its VARs bring highly specialized skills and a broad understanding of the fundamentals of office automation to customization and system integration projects.
Nien-Ling Wacker, President and CEO
Nien-Ling Wacker earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from the University of Melbourne, Australia, and a Master of Science degree in chemical physics from the University of Southern California. Ms. Wacker began her career in the computer industry as a systems analyst and programmer, and subsequently joined the USC computer science department as an instructor.
Ms. Wacker founded Compulink in 1974 to develop custom software solutions. By the early 1980s, she had identified an emerging need among her clients for an electronic document repository that would provide both secure storage and instant retrieval by any word or phrase in the document. Ms. Wacker envisioned this repository as a sort of “auxiliary brain” even before the term “document management” had been coined.
Her vision began to take shape in 1981, while Ms. Wacker was conducting a study for a major Japanese automaker. American Honda engaged her to design a system to help manage documents, primarily for litigation support. By the time she finished the project requirement analysis, it was clear that current technology was unable to handle large document volumes cost-effectively.
Soon after, a similar engagement with a Southern California gas utility emphasized the need for an electronic document system, and Ms. Wacker recognized the business opportunity in pursuing such a solution. At the 1986 COMDEX technology conference, hardware technology at last appeared to be catching up with her original vision. High-capacity optical storage was becoming more economical, and faster. More versatile paper scanners were also on the horizon.
Ms. Wacker released Laserfiche for DOS in 1987, the same year that marked the founding of Laserfiche, a division of Compulink Management Center, Inc. Ms. Wacker guided subsequent Laserfiche development with an intense focus on customer needs, advancing the product into Novell and Microsoft Windows environments.
As Laserfiche grew throughout the 1990s, Ms. Wacker became increasingly active in document management professional groups and trade associations representing core Laserfiche markets. She served on the board of the Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM) and the board of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) Education Foundation.
Gradually, trade associations and other business groups began to recognize Ms. Wacker’s contributions to the document management industry. In 2001, she received the AIIM Pioneer of the Year Award as well as the IIMC Visionary Award. In 2002 and 2003, her company was named to Deloitte & Touche’s Southern California Technology “Fast 50.” In 2003, she was named to the Los Angeles Business Journal’s list of 100 Women Who Make a Difference and list of Top 25 Women-Owned Businesses. In 2003, the Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce honored Laserfiche as a “Destination: Tomorrow” award recipient, the organization’s highest award. She was also a finalist in the 2004 and 2005 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of Year. In May 2005, Ms. Wacker was named National Luminary of the Year by the Mothers in Business Network. In March 2006, Ms. Wacker was inducted into the National Association of Women Business Owners Hall of Fame in Los Angeles.
