LONG BEACH, CA (Laserfiche)—January 12, 2010—Laserfiche today announced the winners of its annual Run Smarter Awards program, including Minnesota’s Elk River Police Department. Each year, Laserfiche recognizes organizations that have been successful in solving their most pressing information management challenges through innovative use of Laserfiche technology.

In 2007, the Elk River PD integrated Laserfiche with its police records management system (RMS), which enables officers to access supporting content for all case files via wireless-enabled laptops in their squad cars. According to Police Chief Jeffrey Beahen, “Everything we scan goes into our browser-based RMS system. Photos, maps, reports, names—everything is accessible from our squad cars.”

This integration—which took less than a week to complete—has saved the Elk River PD thousands of man hours. In addition, instant access to crime-related information ensures officer safety.

The police department’s use of Laserfiche has also enabled it to file case paperwork quickly and easily, which prevents the risk of evidence tampering. According to Beahen, “With Laserfiche we can cross-reference with other resources prior to disturbing crime scenes, which means greater coordination and access to evidence, so we’re solving crimes faster.”

Other 2010 Run Smarter winners include: Cambridge Financial Group; California’s Central Contra Costa Sanitary District; Collin County, TX; Spindletop MHMR Services; LaPorte County, IN; Los Angeles County Office of Education; the city of Norfolk, VA; RMS; State of Guerrero, Mexico; Texas A&M University; and the Texas Medical Board.
