Laserfiche Congratulates the 2020 Top Digital Counties
The Center for Digital Government (CDG) and the National Association of Counties (NACo) recently announced the results of the 2020 Digital Counties Survey—and Laserfiche is excited to announce that the majority of this year’s winners are Laserfiche customers once again.
The 2020 Digital Counties Survey conducted by CDG in partnership with NACo, evaluates and honors leading counties for programs that encourage government innovation and collaboration.
CDG selects the top respondents among five population cohorts and awards them with the honor of “Top Digital County.” These leaders in public sector digital transformation have spearheaded innovative initiatives that save tax dollars, increase efficiency, and enhance transparency, cybersecurity and citizen engagement.
Now in its 18th year, the Digital Counties Survey gives counties the opportunity to showcase how they align technology with county goals and respond to key characteristics. The list of characteristics from the annual survey included the following:
- Aligned Leadership: IT strategy consistency and support of leadership’s priorities and the actions Enterprise IT takes to improve working relationships, planning, policies and coordination with departments.
- Citizen-Centric: Mobile and digital services that engage individual citizens/businesses.
- Cybersecurity: Consistent, reliable, proactive and responsive actions to ensure county-wide protection of IT operational systems against internal and external threats.
- Data Governance/Transparency: Using mechanisms to ensure data quality and privacy protection as well as delivering trusted data to all users who are authorized to access it.
- Data Drive Government: Systematic data based analytical mechanisms and techniques used to efficiently and effectively manage the county’s business as well as IT functions.
- IT Investment: The management of IT budgets to align with county priorities, maintain sound programs/projects, execute smart procurements, and avoid costly overruns.
- Sustainability: IT programs/projects in energy conservation, environment management and the county’s modernization of its physical assets.
- Resilience: The ability to recover from and maintain continuous IT and business operations during disasters and crisis conditions.
- Staffed/Supported: The ability to hire, retain, improve and empower competent IT personnel.
- Continuous Innovation: The exploration, testing and appropriate application of Emerging Technologies beyond current operations to improve government services.
- Connected Infrastructure: IT enabled services – computing, storage and networks.
- Business Process Alignment: The internal business processes and software systems used primarily by county employees and their partners within key departments.
In an article about the survey, Government Technology points out that IT leaders in the winning counties all had projects that became necessary when the pandemic struck. Survey results also revealed the top ten technologies and initiatives which are likely to have an increased focus in the next year:

- Disaster Recover/Continuity of Operations
- Business Intelligence/Analytics
