Tech Tip: Annotation Features in Laserfiche 8.3

Laserfiche 8.3 introduced several new enhancements to annotations. These features allow you to customize the way annotations are displayed.

When placing annotations on a page, you may have some places where two or more annotations overlap. For instance, you might highlight a paragraph, and then add a sticky note containing a link to a Website. Alternately, you might use a rectangle annotation to mark part of a diagram, and then place a callout text box pointing to a particular feature of that section.

In Laserfiche 8.3, when annotations overlap, you can specify which annotation should be in front and which should be in the back. This affects the way the annotations are displayed. For instance, if you place a green highlight over a yellow sticky note, the sticky note will appear green, because it is being viewed through the green color of the highlight in front of it. Bringing the sticky note to the front would cause it to display as yellow again. Bringing annotations to the front can also make them easier to view and modify. It can be difficult to select an annotation if it is behind another annotation, but bringing the annotation to the front makes selecting the annotation straightforward.

To bring an annotation to the front or back, right-click it. If it is already at the back, Bring to Front can be selected; if it is already in the front, Send to Back can be selected. If it is between two other annotations, you can choose either option.

Customizable Font Size

In Laserfiche 8.3, you can customize the font size for text box and callout text annotations. This allows you to ensure that your annotation is readable regardless of the size and resolution of the image. To modify the font size of a text annotation, right-click the annotations and select Properties. You can specify your desired font size in the Text Size option.

Redaction Comments

When redacting part of your document, you may want to be able to indicate why the selected portion was redacted. You can do so by placing a comment in the redaction’s properties. When a user hovers over the redaction in the Document Viewer, a tooltip will open and display the redaction comment. This can serve to explain why a particular part of the image was redacted to users who can see through the redaction, so that they will not inappropriately move or remove it. For instance, if a redaction was made in compliance with a particular regulation, you could note the regulation.

To set a redaction comment, right-click the redaction and select Properties. Open the Metadata tab and type the desired comment in the Comments option. The comment will now be available as a tooltip.
