Eaton County, MI, has been named one of America’s top digital counties by the Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties. The survey identifies best technology practices among counties nationwide.

Among other technology initiatives, Eaton County implemented Laserfiche in 2012 to automate its accounts payable (A/P) process. The county processes about 35,000 A/P records annually across 25 geographically dispersed operating departments.

“I knew Laserfiche could have a huge impact on the A/P process,” said Dr. Robert Sobie, Director of Information Systems. “Today, we save $51,320 annually on this process alone. With the addition of some HR functions joining our process improvement initiatives, we will see even greater future benefits and cost savings.”

The county also implemented Laserfiche in the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, becoming one of the first prosecutor offices in the U.S. to go paperless. This office’s best practices have been shared with similar agencies across the U.S.

Katie Burke, Government Program Strategist at Laserfiche, said, “The programs and strategies that Eaton County has implemented demonstrate a real commitment to digital innovation. The county is saving money while making many of its processes more efficient. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Eaton County.”
