At #EDUCAUSE15, Carolynn Julien, Associate Director of Research Administration at Hunter College, will explain how Laserfiche enterprise content management (ECM) software has automated the management of over $50 million in annual grant funding. Hunter College is the largest college in the City University of New York (CUNY) System. With 24 campuses spread across New York City’s five boroughs, CUNY is the largest urban university in the United States.
“Today, every aspect of an institution’s delivery and support system must increase efficiency while providing greater business value,” said Julien. “Faculty should spend their time working on the grant proposal itself, not on administrative tasks like completing forms and gathering approvals.”
Founded in 1870, Hunter College is one of the oldest public colleges in the United States. More than 23,000 students are currently pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees in over 170 areas of study. The College is home to 13 research institutes and centers, including the Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute, the Center for Study of Gene Structure and Function, and the Center for Advanced Research of Spatial Information.
The College’s Office of Research Administration implemented Laserfiche ECM to address the many challenges of paper-based grant management, including:
- Less time spent developing grant proposals with automated routing and mobile access to key documents
- Improved management of documents needed for proposals, contracts, project tracking and reporting
- Compliance with grantor federal and institutional mandates through DoD 5015.2-certified records management
- Instant retrieval of information about previous grants or funding sources to answer questions from college executives
“Laserfiche will enable us to create a less burdensome process that will have a positive effect on current and prospective faculty,” Julien added.
The presentation will take place on Thursday, October 29 at 4:30PM in Meeting Room 138-139. Takeaways for attendees include tools to identify areas for improvement within the grant management process, as well as metrics to assess the impact of digitization and automation on grant management and outline compliance improvements to campus leadership.
“High-dollar, high-profile research grants are the lifeblood of research institutions,” said Linda Ding, Education Program Strategist at Laserfiche. “With Laserfiche, universities can build a research administrative infrastructure that enables institutional leaders to make better decisions about new services, operational methods and ways to handle growth.”
Laserfiche, a silver sponsor, will be on hand at booth #1336 to demonstrate its software solutions and give away “Quicker Better Safer: Higher Education,” a book of customer-built solutions. Laserfiche will also host a reception on Wednesday, October 28 at 6:30PM at The Slippery Noodle Inn, Indiana’s oldest bar and live blues music venue. Performing at the event will be The Gene Deer Band, an American blues, rock and country band voted “Best Local Blues Band” for nine years running by NUVO Newsweekly readers.
