Tompkins County, NY, has been named one of America’s top digital counties by the Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties. The survey identifies best technology practices among counties nationwide

“When the clerk’s office first took over the county records center, we planned to barcode our old records and either build a new records center or renovate the existing one. This would have cost between $2.3 million and $6 million. Our analysis showed that with an investment of $400,000 to $500,000 for scanning, software upgrades and IT infrastructure updates, using Laserfiche could save us as much as $5.5 million dollars!” said Maureen Reynolds, Deputy County Clerk at Tompkins County.

Today, Tompkins County uses Laserfiche in all 28 of its departments to automate business processes including:

  • Payroll reports.
  • Personnel files.
  • District attorney files.
  • Insurance certificates.
  • Notification of land parcel splits.

In addition, the county uses a shared service model to host the records of 16 cities, towns and villages within its borders.

“Tompkins County has embraced technology to deliver extraordinary results,” said Katie Burke, Government Program Strategist at Laserfiche. “By converting paper records into electronic documents, the county has saved millions in taxpayer money and made information more accessible to its citizens. It deserves every ounce of recognition it has received!”
